Boost Your Immune System Naturally

The immune system is an important line of defense in preventing illnesses. If you keep getting sick, it is possible that your immune system is weak. Luckily for us, there are many healthy ways to strengthen the immune system. Here are a few.

Get more sleep

Sleep is very important to the body and is closely linked to the health of the immune system. Not getting enough sleep actually weakens the immune system and makes one susceptible to more illnesses. Try getting at least seven hours of sleep each night.

Eat more fruits and vegetables

Fruits and vegetables contain various vitamins and minerals that are beneficial to the body and play a crucial role in strengthening the immune system. Additionally, they help fight against numerous diseases.

Eat more food that has probiotics

Foods such as yoghurt, kimchi, sauerkraut and kefir are full of probiotics that are beneficial for your gut health as well as boosting your immune system. They help protect you from harmful invaders and prevent illnesses.

Eat more healthy fats

There is a preconceived notion that fats can be unhealthy, but there are healthy fats to choose from. These can be obtained from foods that include salmon and olive oil. These healthy fats have anti-inflammatory properties and can fight off viruses and bad bacteria.

Stay hydrated

You probably hear this a lot and for a good reason. When you’re dehydrated, your body isn’t able to function properly and your immunity weakens. This is especially important if you work in a low-temperature environment. The cool temperature will make you feel like you don’t need to drink much when in actual fact you still need to consume an adequate amount of water to ensure your body is well-hydrated.

Exercise

Getting the body moving helps to regenerate the immune cells and reduce inflammation. The exercise doesn’t need to be hardcore; just walking outside in a park for half an hour a week can already do wonders to your body.

Cut back on the alcohol

An excessive amount of alcohol is bad for your body. It’s best to consume alcohol moderately so you don’t overwork your liver. If it is possible to cut it out completely, go ahead. If you can’t do without it, try to limit your alcohol intake to just a drink a day or every few days.

Quit smoking

Smoking is very harmful to the body as the chemicals released in the smoke can not only cause respiratory problems but also interfere with the growth and function of immune cells in the body. It’s best to quit smoking completely for the sake of your health.
